THE IMPORTANCE OF IMPLANTS
Missing teeth are a problem that should be addressed as soon as possible. Not only do missing teeth make it more difficult to chew and speak properly, they also lead to the decay of your jawbone, which can change the shape of your face. There are many reasons that teeth can be lost, including disease, decay, or blunt trauma.
Dental implants are the most permanent, durable solution available for missing teeth. Even if your teeth have been missing for a while and your jawbone has atrophied, bone grafts can restore enough strength to support a dental implant.
Implants consist of two parts: an abutment and a crown. The abutment is a titanium post that is embedded in the jawbone just below the gum line. The crown is the new artificial tooth, which is attached to the top of the abutment. Unlike dentures, which are removable, dental implants are permanent and do not need support from surrounding teeth.
Patients seeking dental implant surgery should be in good general and oral health. Visit our office for a consultation, and we can determine whether you’re a good candidate for surgery. Some types of dental implants that we can install:
- Single tooth replacement: If only a single tooth has been lost, a dental implant can be crafted to blend in with the surrounding natural teeth.
- Multiple teeth replacement: If multiple teeth in a row are missing, an implant-supported bridge is a good option. For example, if three teeth are missing, the outer two can be installed as dental implants, connected to each other by a middle crown that does not need its own anchor.
- All-on-Four dental implants: This is an option for patients who have lost their entire top or bottom set of teeth. A completely new set of teeth is installed with four anchor points into the jawbone. It’s a great way to replace those missing teeth all at once.

Dental implants require specialists who have training and experience. Our expert dentists will consult with you on providing the best treatment possible. If you are missing a tooth, a crown or multiple teeth, implants can be used to replace them. For more than one missing tooth, bridges supported by dental implants will used. In cases where all the teeth are missing, a full bridge or denture may be required.
In certain cases, placing dental implants is difficult due to a lack of proper bone structure. In these cases, your dentist may suggest a sinus augmentation. A sinus lift is a procedure in which the sinus floor is raised and the bone is developed for implants to be placed. In other cases, a ridge modification may be performed. A ridge modification entails a lifting of the dental bridge. Defects are filled with bone or bone substitutes. Afterwards, implants can be successfully placed.
